Business Analyst

Alata is looking for a business analyst who can work with our customers, stakeholders and development team to continuously evolve our product offering. You will be a part of the agile delivery team, responsible for gathering requirements from stakeholders, refining vision into clear functional requirements, user stories and acceptance criteria, rationalizing, planning, and monitoring the acceptability of requirements in a timely manner Alberta, based company but this position could be offered for remote work to the right candidate.

As part of the role, you will collaborate with people across multiple business units and functional departments to define, develop and deploy technology solutions to address key business objectives. You will also collaborate with business stakeholders & technical teams (internal & vendor) to develop effective solutions and ensure alignment and joint accountability for successful achievement of initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Develop business requirements and analyze requirements against the larger technical vision
  • Evaluate existing business processes to formulate new business programs and initiatives
  • Lead process review and improvement initiatives to ensure smooth transitions
  • Coordinate with other team members in the organization to create or improve workflows
  • Educate other departments on new processes, sharing ideas, and taking feedback
  • Provide recommendations to users regarding improvements to business processes and software
  • Decompose feature sets into user stories complete with acceptance criteria
  • Prioritize stories relative to one another in a backlog
  • Participate in sprint planning
  • Define and document technical requirements with help of senior software developers
  • Constantly engage with stakeholders, ensuring open communication and clear expectations
  • Answer questions from development team regarding changes and business requirements
  • Work with integrity and respect towards all stakeholders and team members
  • Work with tools such as JIRA, Confluence, Office and others to produce results

Requirements

  • College diploma or university degree in the field of business administration, finance, information systems or equivalent work experience
  • Some experience working in an agile environment
  • 3 - 5 years of Business Analyst experience in any industry
  • Some SQL experience required
  • Able to exercise independent judgment and take action on it
  • Excellent analytical, mathematical, and creative problem-solving skills
  • Excellent listening, interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
  • Logical and efficient, with keen attention to detail
  • Highly self-motivated and directed
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks while under pressure
  • Strong customer service orientation
  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
  • Experience with using techniques such as Use Cases, User Stories, Wire Framing, Storyboards and UML modelling

Asset to your application

  • A firm understanding of agile project delivery methodologies such as Scrum and Kanban
  • IIBA Certification (ECBA, CCBA, CBAP, ECBA+) or a business analysis certificate
